Medical Superintendent of SMHS, Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh said that the Covid-19 third wave is almost over but people shouldn’t lower their guard.

“We had reserved two wards—19 and 20 of our hospital for COVID-19 patients but since there were no patients there, we fumigated it and closed it down,” Singh said.

He further added that people shouldn’t lower their guard as there are reports of a fourth wave in June and July. “So the precautions are better than cure,” he said.

A health official from SKIMS said that the hospital witnessed zero cases today and no patient has been admitted so far in the Covid-19 wards.

“Yes, we can say the covid-19 third wave is over now,” he added.

The Valley registered just 18 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Friday, according to a government spokesperson.

The occupancy of 4838 dedicated beds was 0.25, the spokesperson said, adding

“Currently, 12 patients infected with COVID-19 are admitted for treatment in the entire J&K,”

Dr Saleem Khan, Head of the Department Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar, confirmed that the COVID Testing lab (Department of Microbiology) reports ‘NO Positive’ status on Friday, when all 1651 samples tested in last 24 hours tested Negative for SARS CoV-2.

“It is good news, the cases are reaching at lowest levels,” Khan said.

He further added that testing in GMC Srinagar started in March 2020 and for the first time in two years all the samples (1651) came out Covid-19 negative.
