Delimitation Panel on Monday presented its first paper, which includes a proposal for six additional seats for the Jammu region and 1 for Kashmir.

This would take the total number seats in Jammu to 43, and in Kashmir Valley to 47.

9 seats were proposed for ST & 7 for SC. Associate members requested to submit their suggestions by Dec 31.

The delimitation panel has also sought reservations for Kashmiri Pandits who have been demanding a floating constituency seat on the Sikkim pattern.

The commission headed by a former supreme court judge, Justice (retired) Ranjana Desai is responsible for reserving a designated number of seats in a state assembly or the Lok Sabha for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.

Members of Parliament of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference (NC) confirmed that they will attend the next meeting of the Delimitation Commission.

The Jammu Kashmir PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has rejected the commission saying that  she had no faith in the delimitation commission which was “working on the BJP’s agenda”.
