How Old is Google?

The tech giant Google turns 23 today on September 27, 2021. But do you know that Google was actually founded on September, 4, 1998? Then why the shift of birthday celebrations to 27th of the month? Well read on.

Google was founded by co-founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page in the year 1998.

In 1997, Sergey Brin, a graduate student at Stanford University, just happened to be assigned to show Larry Page, who was considering Stanford for graduate school at the time, around campus.

By the next year, the two Google co-founders were building a search engine together in their dorm rooms and developing their first prototype. This is how Google Inc. was officially born on 4th September in 1988.

For the initial seven years, Google observed its birthday on this date. But later, Google shifted its birthday to today, September 27, this was done to coincide with the announcement of the record number of pages that this search engine was indexing.

Google is one of the most used search engines globally. Google’s current CEO is Sundar Pichai, who succeeded Larry Page on October 24, 2015.

Google doodle history dates back to 1998, the year Google was founded. The very first Google doodle was that of the Burning-Man event in Black Rock City, Nevada.
