Shah landed at the Jammu airport late in the evening and was straightway escorted to Raj Bhawan, where he chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in the union territory, officials said.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh shared on his Twitter handle a picture of him receiving the home minister at the airport.

The officials said Singh, MP from Udhampur constituency here, was accompanied by other prominent BJP leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore and the party’s Jammu and Kashmir president Ravinder Raina.

The officials said Singh, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jammu and Kashmir Police, officials of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), intelligence agencies and the civil administration took part in the security review meeting, which assumes significance in view of the recent spurt in militant activities in Kashmir.

Three Panchayat members and two security personnel were killed in separate attacks by militants in the Valley this month, while security forces neutralized 11 militants in different encounters over the past nine days.

Shah is scheduled to address the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Raising day at M A Stadium on Saturday before taking stock of the developmental activities at a high-level meeting in the afternoon, the officials said.

They said the home minister is also likely to visit Kathua to meet CRPF personnel at Mahanpur, where a high security prison is being built, before returning to Delhi in the evening.

This is Shah’s second visit to Jammu and Kashmir in the past five months. The home minister had toured the union territory in October last year, his first after the Centre revoked the erstwhile state’s special status and bifurcated it into two union territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh –on August 5, 2019.

Jobs To Kin Of Slain Policemen.

The Union Home Minister on Friday handed over appointment orders to the kin of four J&K policemen who were killed in anti-militancy operations.

Shah handed over the appointment order on compassionate grounds to the wife of policeman Rohit Kumar who was killed in an encounter with militants in January this year in Kulgam.

The job letters was given by Shah to the widow of policeman in presence of J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union MoS Dr Jitendra Singh and the DGP Dilbagh Singh here at Raj Bhawan.

The Home Minister also gave appointment orders to Ifra Yaqoob, as orderly cum Chowkidar in Industries and Commerce Department, and Aabid Bashir and Mohsin Mushtaq as follower in Jammu and Kashmir Police, sons of policemen killed in the line of duty.

According to an official handout issued here, Shah later interacted with the next of kin of the killed security personnel.

“Interacting with them, he said the entire nation is proud of the courage and commitment shown by these brave security personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police,” it read.

It is pertinent to mention that the Home Minister during his last visit to Jammu & Kashmir in October 2021 visited the house of Inspector Pervaiz Ahmad Dar in Srinagar and in 2019 and handed over an appointment letter to the wife of Inspector Arshad Khan.

“The Home Minister has lauded the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in restoring peace and in Jammu and Kashmir on numerous occasions and in number of for a,” the official statement said.
