IPS Officer Arrested By NIA For Leaking Information To Lashkar-e-Taiba, ISI.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested its former Superintendent of Police (SP) and IPS officer Arvind Digvijay Negi on charges of leaking secret information to an overground worker of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Negi, a police officer who was promoted to the IPS batch of 2011, was arrested in connection with a case registered by the NIA on November 6 last year, a spokesperson said.

The case pertains to the spread of a network of over ground workers (OGWs) of LeT for providing support in planning and execution of militant activities in India.

The NIA had earlier arrested six people in the case.

“NIA has arrested ex-SP of @NIA_India AD Negi after an investigation verified his role in passing secret information to one OGW of LeT in Jammu & Kashmir. Negi was repatriated to Himachal Pradesh Police last year and his house was sealed by NIA after a raid. This IPS officer during his tenure with @NIA_India investigated a number of terror and terror funding related cases in Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.

According to reports, Negi, during his 11-year term with NIA served in its Terror Funding and Fake Currency (TFFC) Unit.

Among other high-profile cases investigated by Negi, included that of sacked DSP Davinder Singh, who was caught ferrying Hizbul Mujahideen militants to Jammu, and arrest of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth leader Waheed Para besides cross- Line of Control (LoC) trade case. He has also probed fake currency and IS recruitment cases during his stint at NIA.

Negi, who was promoted to the IPS in 2016, was also awarded the Police Medal for meritorious service after investigating the Hurriyat militant funding case. (With inputs from PTI)
