Witnesses said that clashes were going on in Noorbagh locality when forces chased youths.

“Three youths jumped into Jhelum. Two of them managed to swim safely to the banks while one couldn’t,” said a witness, Pervez Ahmed.

The teen, feared drowned, has been identified as Danish Sultan, 13, of Palpora, Eidgah, Srinagar.

IGP Kashmir, SJM Gilani, however, said that there was no deployment in the area.

“We have provided a rescue team to fish out the body of the youth,” he said.
