Nowgam Encounter: Police Arrests 15 Youth In The Area For Stone Pelting.

The Jammu Kashmir Police have arrested 15 persons for stone-pelting in the aftermath of the Nowgam encounter in Srinagar on Wednesday.

In a press release, the Police said, On 16-03-2022 at Shankarpora Nowgam Srinagar, 03 terrorists were neutralized. As per the SOP, the site was being cleared to ensure the safety of citizens.

‘Accordingly, signboards were also placed around the site of the encounter, while it was being sanitized, to dissuade citizens from approaching the site prior to sanitization with regard to any left-over explosive from the terrorists’, said a spokesman of Srinagar police.

‘However, a large unruly mob assembled from adjacent areas of Shankerpora Wanabal carrying lathies and stones in their hands and pelted stones on the deployed nafri. In order to disperse the mob smoke shells were used, as per the SOPs,’ he added.

‘Accordingly Case FIR No. 46/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered in PS Nowgam and 15 identified persons were also arrested in the said case. Srinagar Police, requests all citizens to stay away from encounter sites to ensure their safety, keeping in view the liklehood of left over explosives from the terrorists’, he further added.

As per police, three militants of LeT/TRF outfit were killed in the gunfight that broke out early morning after the police and paramilitary forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shankarpora Nowgam.
