People’s Democratic Party spokesperson and youth leader, Waheed Rehman Parra has been granted bail by the Jammu Kashmir High Court on Wednesday afternoon, with orders for his immediate release after being in the jail for 18 months.
A Spokesman of the People’s Democratic Party confirmed the bail order and said that the party is expecting Waheed’s release immediately.
The Division Bench of the High Court, he said, granted bail to PDP leader. The court has set aside the order of the special Court and directed the authorities to release him forthwith unless he is required in any other case.
On 25 November 2020, Para was arrested by the NIA on alleged terrorism charges and held in their custody for one month at its headquarters in New Delhi.
The designated court in July 2021 framed “terror” charges against Parra on a police charge sheet claiming that he was an asset for Pakistan-based militant groups and that his 13-year journey as a journalist and politician from 2007 was a “saga of subterfuge, deceit and double-dealing”.
Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir and the head of People’s Democratic Party took to twitter and thanked his counsel for pleading Waheed’s case. She wrote, “Finally after almost two years, Waheed Para gets bail & I hope he walks out as a free man soon. Would like to thank his lawyer Shariq for fighting his case with such conviction & determination.”
