Photojournalists beaten with canes by forces in Batmaloo

Srinagar : After CRPF men created mayhem inside Batamaloo area of Srinagar on Saturday morning, it was media personnel who faced irate forces near main Batamaloo chowk.

Several photojournalists were thrashed by police while they were heading towards the interiors of Batmaloo in Srinagar to carry out their professional duties on Saturday.
“When we tried to move forward, police men stopped us,” the journalist said. “We have been categorically told not to allow anyone inside,” the cop told the media.
“We showed him the curfew passes issued by District Commissioner,” the journalist said, “but they told us nothing is admissible.”
“We were cane charged by policemen after we asked them to allow us to film the scenes of curfew in the interiors of Batmaloo,” lensman Mubashir Khan. “We were beaten despite producing our curfew passes.”
The said photojournalists later staged a dharna to protest against the police action.
