The protestors demanded rechecking and revaluation of papers to be carried by Board on its own and announcement of new results.

Police Tuesday detained scores of students who were protesting against Technical Board for announcing “poor results.”

The students shouted slogans as policemen pushed them in a vehicle at Press Enclave here while female students raised cry to demand the release of their classmates.

Earlier, students of KITE Polytechnique College Rangreth assembled at Press Enclave and raised anti-board slogans.

The protestors demanded rechecking and revaluation of papers to be carried by Board on its own and announcement of new results.

“Few days ago, the board had announced results for 2nd and 3rd semester examinations in which only three percent students have been declared qualified.

“Students who have been toppers in earlier exams have been put under the category of failures,” said the protesters.

The students said that last month when the Board similarly announced poor results, a fellow student Adnan couldn’t bear the news and committed suicide. It later turned out that Adnan had actually topped the test.

“Today they are doing the same thing again. We demand overhaul of the Board and accountability of those who are assigned to check our answer sheets,” the protesters demanded.

“The present Board officials and paper checkers have proven themselves murders who forced our colleague Adnan to commit suicide,” they alleged.

They also demanded that their answer sheets should be provided to them along with name and contact numbers of paper checker. “Let the Board be transparent. We want to tell them (Board authorities) ‘please don’t commit blunders repeatedly to force the students to meet fate of Adnan’,” they said.

The students tried to march towards towards the busy Residency Road. Police officials present on the spot appealed them to protest peacefully at Press Enclave as their protest at main road would disturb the traffic movement.

After minor scuffle, the police detained scores of students and lodged them in police station Kothibagh.

“You (Police) cannot detain us. We are students, not terrorists,” shouted students who were detained.
