The J&K administration is planning the construction of 7 more grade separators as part of Srinagar Master Plan 2035.

Construction of these grade separators will be done to reduce traffic congestion and improve road connectivity across Srinagar.

The proposed locations where the full grade separators would be constructed include Pantha Chowk, Nowgam Chowk, Shalteng Chowk, Sanat Nagar Chowk, Bemina Chowk, Parimpora Chowk and Tengpora-Batamaloo Crossing.

According to an official document, the alignments of all existing and proposed roads identified will be demarcated to free its encroachments.

“The intersections, crossings are crucial components of the road network system as they allow directional traffic to move through the junctions, causing complex movement, conflict points for vehicles,” it said. The master plan says that grade separators will not be implemented as a stand-alone project but as part of a comprehensive network plan with a traffic circulation system and management measures around the junction.

According to the Master Plan, the road owning agencies would be responsible for installing the appropriate road signage and markings and maintaining them on regular basis.

“Proper care would be taken for local level connectivity and safety at grade crossings for all modes as per the criteria,” it said.

Srinagar Master Plan

The Master Plan Srinagar is a planning exercise for sustainable development of the Srinagar Metropolitan Area spread over 766 sq km. It is the third statutory planning exercise carried out in the past 45 years.
