Chief Engineer of Kashmir PHE Jal Shakti Department, Braham Jyoti Sharma, announced on Wednesday that the government is planning to install water meters at commercial establishments in the first phase of a new initiative.
Speaking to Greater Kashmir, Sharma revealed that 88% of households in the region have already been provided with tap water connections under the Har Ghar Jal Yojana scheme. “So far, 88% of tap water connections have been completed under the Har Ghar Jal Yojana. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the department is actively monitoring the implementation of various schemes at both central and state levels. The work is progressing steadily, and while 88% of the Household Tap Connections (HTC) are complete, efforts are underway to finish the remaining tasks,” he said. Sharma also confirmed that March 31, 2025, has been set as the deadline for completing the entire project.
Regarding the judicious use of water, Sharma stated that the installation of water meters at commercial establishments is under consideration. “In the first phase, water meters will likely be installed at commercial establishments, and the initiative will be expanded further as per the government’s mandate,” he added.
