Weather Update: MeT Predicts Erratic Weather In Jammu & Kashmir For Next Few Days.

The MeT Department forecast “intermittent” showers and thunderstorm in Jammu and Kashmir till May 24.

Most parts of the Union Territory received rain on Friday.

“Today rain/thunderstorm is expected at many places of Kashmir and at scattered places of Jammu, especially hilly areas,” an official of the meteorological department here told GNS.

“Same weather is likely to prevail for the next few days. Intermittent rain and thunderstorm is likely at many places of J&K during May 21-24th,” he said, adding, “Temporary respite from hot weather especially in plains of Jammu during the above period.”

In last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, he said, Srinagar received 0.1 mm of rain, Qazigund 10.2 mm, Pahalgam 0.2 mm, Kupwara 5.2 mm, Kokernag 12.6 mm, Gulmarg 0.2 mm, Banihal 11.4 mm, Batore 1.0 mm and Bhadarwah 3.6mm.

Srinagar recorded a low of 13.2°C against 13.4°C on the previous night. The temperature, he said, above normal by 1.8°C during this time of the year for the summer capital.

Qazigund recorded a low of 10.3°C against 9.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.1°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 8.0°C against 6.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.1°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir during this time of the season, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 10.3°C against 10.9°C on the previous night. It was 0.3°C above normal during this time of the season for the place in south Kashmir, the official said.
