Donald Trump lands in China for talks amid Iran tensions

It seems that the ice has broken between the two superpowers as the US and China are set for a meet. Although the US considers China as its rival yet it seems that the conflict with Iran has changed the dynamics of the world.

United States President Donald Trump is in Beijing for a high-stakes summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping aimed at easing deep tensions between the rival superpowers.

Visiting China for the first time since 2017 during his previous term, Trump received a lavish welcome from Chinese authorities.

As he departed the White House, Trump said he expected a “long talk” with Xi about the US-Israeli war on Iran, which sells most of its US-sanctioned oil to China.

But he also downplayed disagreements, telling reporters that “I don’t think we need any help with Iran” from China and that Xi had been “relatively good” on the topic.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday it “welcomes” Trump’s visit and that “China stands ready to work with the United States to expand cooperation and manage differences”.

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping agreed during their meeting that Strait of Hormuz must stay open for free flow of energy, according to a White House readout of the summit on Thursday, Reuters news agency reported.

Both leaders also discussed building on progress in ending the flow of fentanyl precursor chemicals into the US, and the increase of Chinese purchases of US agricultural products.

The United States and China have agreed that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, Reuters reported citing White House official.

US President Donald Trump did not respond to reporters’ questions on Taiwan while touring the Temple of Heaven with Chinese President Xi Jinping after their talks in Beijing.

Reporters repeatedly shouted questions at Trump about Taiwan — a major point of tension in US-China ties — but the US president ignored them during the public appearance, reported news agency Bloomberg.
