IPL 2022: Rajasthan Royals got off to a perfect start in IPL 2022 after 61-run victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pune after powerful knocks by Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal and Shimron Hetmyer.

For Rajasthan the platform was laid in the Powerplay as Jos Butler and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 58 runs in 6 overs.

Despite losing Jaiswal in the seventh over and Buttler in the ninth over, RR were able to maintain the scoring rate.

Samson crunched a stroke-filled 27-ball 55 while Paddikal ended up with a 29-ball 41.

At the back-end of the innings, Shimron Hetmyer pressed the accelerator pedal by tonking Bhuvneshwar and T Natarajan for three sixes and a boundary to finish with a 13-ball 32.

Jammu Kashmir pacer Umran did good for himself finishing with 2/39 in his four overs.

He and Riyan Parag fell in the last over off Natarajan but by then RR had crossed the 200-run mark finishing with 210/6 in 20 overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled to make a fist out of the chase with Prasidh Krishna’s incisive opening spell doing damage.

In his very first over he got rid of Kane Williamson, Nicholas Pooran, who struggled versus the moving ball, then was trapped in front by Trent Boult as SRH slid to 9 for 3.

From that precarious position, there was little hope left for SRH to chart a comeback. Aiden Markram cracked a useful fifty while Washington Sundar went on a hitting spree in the last few overs against Boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile but by then the damage was already done.

Markram remained not out on 57 runs off 41 balls, while he had garnered some support from Sundar (40 off 14 balls) and it was to be too little too late as Hyderabad were all out for 141 runs, suffering a crushing defeat in their opening game.

Brief scores: Rajasthan Royals 210/6 (Sanju Samson 55, Umran Malik 2-39)

Sunrisers Hyderabad 149/7 in 20 overs (Aiden Markram 57*; Yuzvendra Chahal 3-22).
