Was Virat Kohli Sacked or Did He Step Down? Controversy Surrounds BCCI Decision.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee on Wednesday announced Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI skipper replacing Virat Kohli.

While rumors were doing round this still came as a surprise to many.Sharma replaces India’s long-standing captain, till the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

A PTI report claims that Virat Kohli was given 48 hours by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to voluntarily step down as captain and give the long-standing captain “an honourable exit route”. Virat Kohli did not comply and by the 49th hour, he was sacked as captain, the report claims.

Kohli Dared BCCI

Kohli’s fate was sealed after India stormed out of the ICC T20 World Cup, but BCCI wanted to give him an ‘honourable exit’, but Kohli did not accept BCCI’s ’48 hour’ offer and rather chose to ‘dare BCCI to sack him’. Eventually, Virat Kohli had no option but to accept the decision.

The report also made a huge claim that Kohli isn’t the most popular man in the side and it is one of the “worst kept secret in the Indian dressing room”.

PTI also quoted a former member of the Indian team claiming that some players had “trust issues” with the captain. He said: “The biggest problem with Virat has always been trust issues. He speaks about clear communication but where he had lost respect as a leader is lack of communication.”

Regardless Virat Kohli had an impressive run at the captain and many fans have taken to twitter to express their displeasure at this sacking with #shameonbcci trending since the announcement was made.

Some people said he deserved at least a mention from BCCI and a better treatment.

People also pointed how Kohli compares as a captain to his rivals.

While others blamed the new regime of BCCI for this mess.

Fans also pointed to this record being better than MS Dhoni and current Indian coach Rahul Dravid.
