Babar Azam Breaks Another Virat Kohli Record. Gives Way His Man-of-the Match Award To Khushdil Shah.

Babar Azam scored his 17th ODI century leading Pakistan to a win over West Indies in the first ODI in Multan.

Scoring 103 off 107 balls Babar Azam led from the front as Pakistan won the match by 5 wickets.

With his 17th ODI ton, Babar broke a Virat Kohli record. Prior to Wednesday, Kohli held the record for the fastest 1000 runs as a captain in ODIs.

The ex-Indian skipper had reached the milestone in 17 outings.

Babar has now bettered Kohli as he has breached that feat in merely 13 knocks as captain.

Babar also went past the likes of South Africa’s AB de Villiers (20 innings) and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson (23 innings) for the feat. The Pakistan captain currently holds the no.1 spot in the ODI rankings for batters.

Incidentally, this is the second time when Babar has scored three centuries on the trot in the fifty-over format. In 2016, the Pakistan skipper had registered scores of 120, 123, and 117 in three successive matches – all against the West Indies in the United Arab Emirates. And so, with his century against the Windies on Wednesday, Babar became the first player in ODI history to reach this feat.

After leading the team to a magnificent victory over West Indies and contributing with a brilliant century, Azam gave the Player of the Match award to Khushdil Shah, who scored a thrilling 23-ball 41* to take his side home in the final over.
