Egg on face: ICC responds to BCCI’s letter opposing KPL, says matter out of jurisdiction.

ICC has said that it has no jurisdiction over Kashmir Premier League (KPL) and other non-international cricket tournaments.

The ICC responded after a BCCI had urged them not to recognize the Pakistan based regional tournament. The tournament is sanctioned by PCB and will be held in Muzaffarabad from August 6.

What’s the fuss?

Muzaffarbad where the tournament is scheduled to take place is part of a disputed region between India and Pakistan. The region is a bone of contention between the two nations for years.

Now that PCB is organizing a league tournament in that region with international players BCCI has taken an objection to that.

Earlier players and officials had accused BCCI of threatening them with bans about participating in anything cricket related in India if they take part in KPL.

ICC clarifies.

According to ICC rules, every national federation shall have the sole and exclusive right to sanction the staging of domestic matches within their territory.

A spokesperson of ICC said, “The tournament is not under ICC’s jurisdiction as it is not an international cricket tournament.”
