The government Monday said that there will be no summer vacation in the degree colleges of Jammu division while online academics will continue to be in place.
Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department secretary, Sushma Chauhan said that the online teaching mechanism in place as of now shall continue till in-person academic activity is allowed to be resumed by the government.
The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has learnt that in a circular issued by the department earlier this month, the government has ordered the concerned authorities to continue conducting online academic activities in government degree colleges of summer zones of Jammu division.
“Summer vacation government degree colleges of summer zones in Jammu division in the normal course of academic calendar are announced for 45 days from beginning June till mid July and the vacation coincides with the completion of syllabi of all academic semesters,” the government said.
Reasons for cancellation:
In a circular, the Higher Education Department has said that due to disruption of normal academic activities on account of COVID-19, the completion of course work of the ongoing semesters has been affected.
“It is thus imperative to cover the remaining syllabus so that exams are planned in the next two months and the consequent admissions in the various semesters are held on time,” it reads.
The government said that in view of the extraordinary circumstances and also in view of suspension of in-person academic activities there shall be no break in the on-line academic activities in the government degree Colleges of Jammu division on account of the usual summer vacation.
“It is further ordered that the period with immediate effect from June-01-2021 to July-15-2021 in respect of the vocational staff of the government degree Colleges of Jammu division shall be treated as on duty,” the government said—(KNO)
