The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) continued its market inspection drive on Sunday during which action was taken against 57 traders found operating in violation of the Legal Metrology laws.

The action from LMD came after complaints by consumers of over charging by the various traders.

An amount of Rs. 36,800 was collected as fine on spot from different traders which include Bakery, Vegetable and Mutton Sellers.

The shopkeepers were warned to refrain from any unfair trade practices during the auspicious occasion of Eid.

Moreover, the consumers were advised to check the various mandatory declarations on the products before purchasing them like MRP, Net Weight, Date of Packing, Customer Care address etc and in case of any complaints they were requested to lodge their complaints with the Legal Metrology department.

It is pertinent to mention that on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, the traders are often resorting to overcharging and other unfair trade practices.

Administration, while taking a serious note of such violations, have constituted special market checking teams in order to check this menace.
