SIA Conducts Raids At Various Locations In Kashmir Over Illegal Sale Of SIM Cards.

State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted raids at multiple locations in South and Central Kashmir on Saturday morning, sources said.

News agency KDC quoting sources reported that the sleuths of the investigating agency with the assistance of the local police and the CRPF carried out raids in summer capital Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama and other districts.

In Srinagar, raids are being conducted in the residences of Mohammad Amin Khan son of Late Habibullah Khan resident of H.No.18 Umer Colony (B) Lalbazar who runs mobile shop in Budgam, Mohd Yousuf Dhani son of Noor Mohd Dhani resident of Barbarshah, Kralkhud, Saleem Ah Malik son ofBashir Ahmad Malik resident of Lasjan, Nowgam, Basit Syed Narwari son of Mohammad Syed Narwari R/o Kani Mazar, Nawakadal, Basit Syed Narwari son of Mohammad Syed resident of Kani-Mazar Nawakadal and Waseem Shafi Bhat son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat resident of Alipora Lalbazar.

In Budgam, sources confirmed that raids were being conducted in the houses of Nasir Ali Malla son of Ali Mohammad resident of Karipora, Sayar Ahmad Mir resident of Munipappy Budgam, Junaid Mir son of Mazoor Ahmad. Raids were also conducted in Ichgam and Sholipora.

Sleuths of the investigating agency carried out raids in South Kashmir’s Lassipora and Chandgam area of Pulwama besides Braw Bandina area of Awantipora and Chawalgam area of Kulgam.

An official said raids are being conducted at the residences and shops of persons dealing with the selling of mobile phones and sim cards.

The raids, come as a crackdown against the misuse of SIM cards and their fraudulent sale by vendors in the region. The crackdown comes in the face of increasing misuse of SIM cards by terrorists and narcotics smugglers.

The searches came pertaining to the misuse of SIM cards by terrorists, their OGW associates, narcotics smugglers and other criminals. The majority of the premises searched belonged to Point of Sale (PoS) vendors who sold cards in violation of Department of Telecom regulations. According to sources, the SIM card details were even forged by these vendors.

According to sources, the Government is currently considering making it an offence for a person to willingly give his/her SIM card to a person other than a family member for occasional and emergency use. Police also informed that action will be taken against PoS SIM card sellers and subscribers who obtain SIM cards in excess of six cards.
