Tajamul Islam, a 14 year old girl from Bandipora, Kashmir made history as she won a gold medal in under 14 age category in World Kickboxing Championship held at Cairo Egypt.

The young kickboxer defeated Argentina’s Lalina in final bout to clinch gold.

The kick boxers from around the globe were participating in the event, including 30 players from India in various age/weight categories.

She has won several accolades earlier, including earning the 2015 National Kickboxing Championship at New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium, winning gold in the sub-junior category, 2016 World Championship with gold, and so forth.

She has also won gold medals at district; state, national and international level kickboxing competitions in the sub-junior category.

Talking about the final bout, Islam said that her rival was very quick in making her moves and she (Islam) was not expecting that from her opponent.

“But I kept my clam and it paid off. I waited for her to make mistakes which eventually helped me to fetch points,” she said.

On her win, Jammu & Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated her for the achievement and her remarkable journey over the years.
