On their return to Centurion however, Bangladesh prevailed and in some style.

Batting first South Africa had a decent start with an opening partnership of 46 runs. But once the stand was broken the hosts fell like a pack of cards.

Taskin Ahmed was the destroyer in chief ripping through the batting order with 5 wickets to his name.

Keshav Maharaj held the inning together with 28 runs to his name but his run out ended any chance of South Africa getting to a respectable total. The hosts were bundled out for a meagre 154 runs.

In response Bangladesh got off to a flying start, Tamim dealt in boundaries while Liton farmed the strike to frustrate the hosts. They struck to dismiss Liton who missed out on a fifty by just two runs.

Tamim would go onto score 87 not out, while Shakib ensured a memorable and easy victory for the visitors.

With this win Bangladesh have finally broken the mould of being a strong home side only. A win in South Africa doesn’t come easy and Bangladesh truly deserve every plaudit they receive.

Brief scores:

South Africa 154 in 37 overs (Janneman Malan 39, Keshav Maharaj 28; Taskin Ahmed 5-35)

Bangladesh 156/1 in 26.3 overs (Tamim Iqbal 87*, Liton Das 48).
