Shopian will soon have a clock tower that will inform its residents of a number of things apart from telling the time.
The state of the art clock tower is being constructed at Gole Chowk. The Chowk is the business nerve centre of the district and always remains abuzz with the visitors.
The place also carries political significance as many political leaders have addressed mammoth gatherings at this place in the past.
What will the Clock Tower display?
The tower would keep people posted about weather updates, temperature and particulate matter (PM) in the atmosphere. It will be linked with the Municipal office and Deputy Commissioner’s office. And will also display important messages, announcements and schemes.
Messages would display in both English and Urdu languages. While in some cases messages will also be displayed in Kashmiri language.
Cost, Inauguration date
- The clock tower would be 52-feet tall
- Around 60 to 70 percent of construction work has already been completed.
- Executive Officer Municipal Council Shopian, Jahid Azad hopes to inaugurate it by September 1.
- The project will cost Municipal Committee Shopian Rs 43 lakh.
