Cinema Halls to reopen in Kashmir, free security for filmmakers: JK Film Policy

Government plans to reopen cinema halls, offer subsidies and free security to filmmakers as part of J&K’s new film policy.

According to the policy, “the government shall encourage and incentivise owners to reopen closed cinema halls or modernize and upgrade the facilities and technologies available in the existing cinema halls.”

The policy also envisions setting up of film and TV studios and processing labs in the region.

The subsidy amount the government offers ranges from shooting the first, second or third film and also varies from making feature film, web series/serial, TV show/serial and documentary. The amount ranges between Rs 20 lakh to Rs 2 crore and depends upon the percentage of total shooting days shot in Jammu and Kashmir.

The policy also aims to disseminate information about the art, culture, history, heritage, livelihood and glorious traditions of the Jammu and Kashmir besides providing opportunities for local talent in acting and film making.

The Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy 2021 would be valid for 5 years from the date of notification which is 26-08-2021.
