IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants pulled off the fourth highest chase in IPL to record their maiden triumph in the competition as Chennai Super Kings remain winless this campaign.

Put to bat first on a placid wicket, Robin Uthappa made most of the conditions after Ruturaj Gaikwad was run out for just 1 run.

Moeen Ali joined Uthappa as the duo cantered to runs in the powerplay. The powerplay yielded a massive 73 runs for CSK. Uthappa brought up his fifty of just 25 balls as he was the destroyer in chief at that point.

However, both batters were dismissed in quick succession first Uthappa trapped LBW by Ravi Bishnoi and then Avesh Khan got rid off Ali. With 106 runs in 10 overs the stage was set for CSK to pose a big total.

Shivam Dube came in and smashed  Dushmantha Chameera for three boundaries in an over. With two sixes and five fours in a 30-ball 49 he put CSK firmly in control. Cameos by Ambati Rayudu, 27 (20), Ravindra Jadeja 17 (9) and MS Dhoni 16 (6) helped Chennai post a impressive looking 210/7 in 20 overs.

If Chennai had thought Lucknow will buckle under the huge score they were about to be proved very wrong. Lucknow Super Giants, led by KL Rahul made a blistering start.

Rahul and De Kock played with ease with runs coming at a fast pace, scoring close to 10 runs per over. KL Rahul had scored 40 off 26 balls when Dwayne Pretorius got him to miscue a pull leading to his dismissal, with the score 99/1 in 10.2 overs.

Manish Pandey perished shortly and then De Kock departed after a 45-ball 61 with Pretorius once again the getting a set batter out.

With LSG 139/3 in 14.4 they still needed 72 runs in 32 balls and then came Evin Lewis.

Lewis took charge of the chase and ensured LSG got their at the end. He first stitched a quick partnership with Deepak Hooda with whom he added 32 off 16 balls, hitting boundaries with his muscular ease.

Hooda’s wicket made the game interesting in the 18th over. With the last two overs needing 34 runs, CSK had a slight upper hand. But this was to be Lewis’ night.

Inexperienced Shivam Dube was picked for 25 in the penultimate over with both Lewis and young Ayush Badoni, bringing it down to 9 off the last over. Lewis scoring a fiery 55 off 23 balls.

Another youngster Mukesh Choudhary couldn’t get his line right and after bowling two wides was smashed for a six by Badoni to hand Lucknow Super Giants their first IPL win.

Brief Scores:

Chennai Super Kings 210/7 (Robin Uthappa 50, Shivam Dube 49; Ravi Bishnoi 2-24)

Lucknow Super Giants 211/4 (Evin Lewis 55*, Quinton de Kock 61)
