The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the extension of winter holidays for all schools up to the 12th standard until February 28, 2025, due to the prevailing severe cold wave in the region.
The announcement was made by Minister of School Education Sakina Itoo via the social media platform X. The decision aims to ensure students’ safety amid harsh winter conditions that make commuting difficult.

Jammu and Kashmir is not the only region facing weather-related school closures. Several other North Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana, have also shut schools temporarily due to severe cold waves, with reopening dates varying across regions.

While some states plan to reopen schools in early January, Jammu and Kashmir’s extended closure reflects the particularly harsh winter experienced in the region.
