Mehbooba Mufti has levelled certain allegations against the government of National Conference. These allegations are serious and could create a rupture if proved to be true. However it is interesting to note that PDP is accused of similar corruption in their previous term.
Former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government of resorting to backdoor appointments in government departments as well as corruption.
She accused CM Omar of turning a blind eye towards public issues and pushing the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to a corner.
She was addressing a PDP workers convention at Poonch wherein she termed ongoing tenure of NC-led J&K government as failure.
“We decided to be a spectator and let the government work but now almost two years are passing and government has failed on all fronts,” Mehbooba said.
She accused that youth of Jammu and Kashmir was waiting for 1 lakh government employment promise of National Conference but the government was resorting to backdoor appointments.
“Omar government is asking some firms to recruit people in different departments but this recruitment is being done through backdoor channels with list of candidates furnished by NC MLAs. Rampant backdoor appointments are going on,” Mehbooba said.
She said that corruption was going on at a large scale and money and influence was involved in transfers which was unfortunate.
“The most astonishing thing is approach of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is acting as a mute spectator and allowing every such act to happen freely,” she said.
Mehbooba said that PDP cadre must remain ready for panchayat as well as municipal elections.
CM hits back at PDP
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday rejected allegations of “backdoor appointments” levelled against the National Conference government and accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti of spreading baseless narratives to mislead the public.
Talking to reporters here the Chief Minister as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), challenged the PDP leadership to provide even a single example of alleged backdoor recruitment.
He said outsourcing is a structured administrative mechanism under government schemes cannot be equated with illegal appointments.
“There is a difference between backdoor appointments and outsourcing. The outsourcing is done under proper schemes,” he said.
CM Omar said such allegations were aimed at diverting attention from ongoing development works in the Union Territory.
He dismissed claims related to transfer postings as factually incorrect and politically motivated. “Shami Oberoi is the Treasurer of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and does not hold any ministerial position,” he said urging the opposition to verify facts before making public statements.
He further alleged that the PDP is deliberately attempting to distract from governance and development issues through repeated accusations.
The Chief Minister said infrastructure and public welfare projects have gained momentum in his constituency since his electoral victory.
On healthcare, he said new machines will be installed at District Hospital Ganderbal, adding that diagnostic tests costing Rs 3,000–Rs 4,000 in private facilities will now be available at subsidised rates of Rs 500–Rs 800.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government remains focused on development, infrastructure improvement, healthcare and youth welfare, adding that regular field visits are being conducted to ensure timely completion of projects in Ganderbal—(KNO)
