Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while remembering the Pahalgam attack victims said the government remains committed to ensuring that horrendous incidents like the Pahalgam terror attack “never happen again”.

“Today is a very painful day for all of us because we remember the sad incident of Pahalgam. We remember all those martyrs who were shot, who were not at fault. They came to celebrate their vacations, and terrorists targeted them and took their precious lives,” he said.

Omar Abdullah further added, “We had decided that day, and we are still on that stand, that our complete effort should remain to ensure such incidents never happen again.”

Pahalgam attack shook the valley

The Pahalgam attack was a terrorist attack carried out in Pahalgam, a tourist hotspot in the valley of Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed on 22 April 2025. The attack was carried out by 3 gunmen. The Resistance Front (TRF) initially claimed the responsibility for the attack however later they tracked back.

The attack intensified tensions between India and Pakistan. A standoff between both countries escalated to a military conflict which was later mitigated when both agreed to a ceasefire.

Following the Pahalgam attack the security grid across the region has been tightened, security forces have established 43 Temporary Operating Bases (TOBs) across the higher reaches of the Pir Panjal range, with personnel from the CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles now stationed at altitudes ranging from 3,000 to nearly 9,000 feet.

Also to ensure strengthen security digital measures like the QR system has been introduced for the local works associated with the tourism industry so that tourists get to deal with verified individuals and there remains no chance of a slip up.
