The Jammu and Kashmir government has launched a transformative initiative, Mission YUVA, aimed at making the region a hub of entrepreneurial excellence and employment generation. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the ambitious plan during the Republic Day celebrations, outlining its goals to establish 1,37,000 enterprises and create approximately 4,25,000 jobs over the next five years.
A Roadmap to Tackle Unemployment
Designed to address unemployment, particularly among youth and women, Mission YUVA seeks to foster a dynamic ecosystem for enterprise development. The initiative focuses on:
- Supporting first-generation entrepreneurs, especially from remote areas.
- Establishing new MSMEs in growth and sunrise sectors.
- Scaling existing businesses for sustainable growth.
- Promoting innovative startups and knowledge-based enterprises.
“This comprehensive strategy leverages Jammu and Kashmir’s socio-economic potential and cultural heritage, paving the way for inclusive prosperity,” said LG Sinha.
Fast-Track Government Recruitment
The LG also highlighted efforts in fast-tracking government recruitment.
- Over the past 4-5 years, 40,000 appointments were made based on transparency and merit.
- Out of 10,616 referred positions, 7,376 have been notified, and examinations for 6,090 posts have already been conducted.
- Compassionate appointments under SRO-43 have seen progress, with 1,116 cases approved this year and 150 under review.
Sports and Youth Empowerment
J&K is making significant strides in promoting sports and youth engagement:
- 4,500 children trained under Khelo India Centres are excelling on national platforms.
- 15,000 athletes represented J&K in national and zonal competitions, with a strong focus on women’s participation.
- The successful hosting of the Legends League cricket tournament has revived international cricket in the region after more than three decades.
- New infrastructure includes a water sports academy in Srinagar, a fencing academy in Jammu, and the upcoming Khel Gaon in Nagrota.
Additionally, J&K will host the fifth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg this February.
Women Empowerment and Livelihood Initiatives
The government is emphasizing women’s empowerment through various programs:
- Plans to transform 40,000 women into “Lakhpati Didis” to boost rural women’s livelihoods.
- Establishment of 20 women’s empowerment hubs offering information on women-centric schemes.
- Over 550 persons with disabilities have gained employment due to changes in reservation policies.
