Raja Balwant Singh College authorities have said that no anti national slogans were shouted in the campus after Pakistan defeated India in the T20 World Cup, but still 3 J&K students were sent to jail.

An FIR was lodged against three students following complaints by BJP youth wing, after they said anti national slogans were raised at the college, a claim that the college denies.

Three students Arsheed Yousuf, Inayat Altaf Sheikh and Showkat Ahmed Ganai were produced in a magistrate’s court in Agra, which remanded them in 14-day judicial custody, an official said.

“The FIR was initially registered under IPC Sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups) and 505 (creating or publishing content to promote enmity). Section 124A (sedition) of the IPC was included on Thursday in the case,” the police official said.

According to faculty members of the college, members of right-wing outfits barged into the college campus on Tuesday and staged a protest against the college and its students.

College authorities now demand action against BJP workers for putting pressure on the management after barging into the institute.

No Anti Indian or Pro Pakistan Slogans

“The students did not shout pro Pakistan slogans”, said B S Kushwaha director academics of the college. He said that registering an FIR against students based on a complaint from an outsider is “incorrect”.

Dr Pankaj Gupta, the institute’s director of administration and finance, said they forcefully entered the campus at around 3:45 pm on Tuesday when classes were being held and they also tried to gain access to the students’ hostels.

“Their act was inappropriate and unacceptable. They did not even try to contact the college management and when they were stopped from entering the hostel premises, they began raising slogans against the college,” Gupta said.

“The college has suspended the three students. But they still raised objectionable slogans to defame the college,” he said.
