Policeman Suspended For Abusing Bikers in Pulwama.

A Policeman was suspended abusing motorcyclists at a checkpoint in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

According to reports, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awantipora, Mohammad Yousuf suspended a policeman and ordered a departmental enquiry against him for non-compliance of Covd-19 protocol and alleged use of abusive language against bike-borne youth at a checkpoint in Shaar Shaali area.

Quoting an unnamed official, a local news agency GNS reported that the bike-borne youth have maintained that they were asked to make a Red Cross donation by a police team at a naka in Shaar Shaali area to which they refused saying that they had made the donation last Sunday.

The cop at the checkpoint, the official said, asked the duo to pay a fine for not wearing a helmet. And while alighting from the bike, the official on duty allegedly abused them to which the bike-borne duo objected, leading to an exchange of words.

The duo have recorded a video clip of the incident and shared it on social-media, wherein the official on duty can be himself seen without mask, the official said.

Taking a strong notice of the incident, SSP Pulwama immediately suspended the official for ‘not following Covid-19 protocol.’

“The SDPO Pampore has further been directed to conduct an enquiry following which action as warranted would follow as the alleged police was himself not following COVID protocol”, the official added.
