SKIMS Soura, has directed its staff , temporary and permanent, to move to the residential accommodations arranged by the Institute for their “safety” after recent incidents involving non-locals.
An order issued by Dr. Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura today “requested” the doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and residents to move their accommodations to the quarters and rooms readied by the Institute. The staff, “Who are residing outside of SKIMS are requested to shift immediately to SKIMS Campus,” reads the order.
“They need to contact the Estates Officer who have arranged for their accommodation within the campus,” it guides the staff.
The order however has a warning note: The arrangements have been made on the direction of the Government and anybody who continues to reside outside the Institute Campus shall be staying at his own risk and responsibility.
A senior official at SKIMS Soura said that residential quarters and a private accommodation that has been taken on rent by SKIMS for over a year now would be secured to house staff not belonging to J&K.
He said hundreds of people, scholars, students and residents from other states of India were currently enrolled at SKIMS Soura. “Most of these people are already living in various hostels, but there are many who would now find an accommodation that will be secured,” he said.
Officials at GMC Srinagar said they had not received any instructions from the Government regarding arrangements of accommodation for non-local staff and students. This month, a number of incidents of violence involving non-local residents were reported in Kashmir.
