United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson called on the world to follow the example of Imran Khan led government’s plan to plant 10 billion trees, as he told world leaders at the United Nations that humanity has to “grow up” and tackle climate change.

‘10 Billion Trees Tsunami’, which is also known as ‘Plant for Pakistan’, is a five-year project to plant 10 billion trees across the country. The project, which was kicked off by PM Imran Khan in September 2018, is aimed at minimising the environmental losses and countering the impact of climate change.

Speaking about the Pakistani project, PM Boris Johnson said, “I invite everybody to follow the example of Imran Khan of Pakistan who has pledged to plant 10 billion trees.”

He also lauded China’s President Xi Jinping for his recent pledge to not build any new coal-fire project abroad, a move that could play a major role in tackling global emissions.

In a speech to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, he said it was now or never for the world to meet its goal of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.
