Rohit Sharma’s return to domestic cricket didn’t get off to the ideal start. The captain of the Indian cricket team is in the Mumbai team for their Ranjit Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, but failed to impress in the first innings.
Sharma’s return lasted just 19 balls at the Sharad Pawar Academy in BKC in Mumbai.
Opting to bat first, Mumbai was on the backfoot after J&K’s Aquib Nabi dismissed l
Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 4 runs, trapping in front of the wicket.
Though Sharma got off the mark, Pulwama’s Umar Nazir Mir, continued to trouble him and bowled two maidens to India’s T20 World Cup winning captain.
Mir then got his reward on his 17th ball as he bowled a delivery just outside the off stump with a slight movement away. Sharma went for his patented pick-up shot over midwicket but got a leading edge to the off side and Paras Dogra pouched an easy catch at extra cover to send him back for just 3 runs.
After being under fire for his performance in BGT against Australia, Sharma had the chance to get back to form, but struggled to get going against some quality bowling.
Meanwhile, Umar Nazir Mir was the star of the innings for J&K
Apart from Sharma, Mir also bowled Mumbai captain and Indian international stalwart Ajinkya Rahane and also got rid of Shivam Dube for a duck, and took four wickets.
Yudhvir Singh also accounted for Indian internationals Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer, taking four wickets overall. Mumbai folded for just 120 runs on the opening day of the match.
