Husband, Mother-in-Law Arrested for Woman’s Murder in Pahalgam

Srinagar, Jan 10: In a shocking case, police have arrested a husband and his mother for allegedly murdering a woman and burning her body in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, in October last year.

The victim, Shabnam Akhtar, was reportedly killed on October 4, 2024, by her husband, Imran Khan, a laborer, and his mother. The accused admitted to the crime during police questioning, according to the GNS news agency.

Details of the Crime

  • The husband confessed to killing Shabnam with the assistance of his mother and burning her body in their cowshed.
  • A police team, accompanied by a duty magistrate, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, and the accused, visited the crime scene.
  • During the investigation, authorities recovered hair, bones, and the victim’s mobile phone, which were sealed in the presence of the duty magistrate for further examination.

Legal Action

A formal case under FIR No. 01/2025 U/S 103(1) BNS, 61(2) BNS has been registered against the husband and his mother, identified as Noor Hassan, wife of Mouz ud Din Khan. Both have been arrested and are in police custody.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to gather additional evidence to ensure justice for the victim.
