Three militants have been killed in an encounter that raged security between forces and militants in Srinagar district’s Nowgam area district early Wednesday morning.
Acting on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the Nowgam area of the city, the government forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter when the militants opened fire at the forces personnel, who retaliated.
Three militant were killed in the encounter, the official said, adding that the search operation is still going on.
Earlier, IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar in a tweet said that militants involved in recent killing of Khanmoh’s Sarpanch Sameer Bhat are trapped in the encounter.
The officials said that search operation is on in the area.
