After 5 Months Colleges to Reopen From Monday: Govt

Colleges in J&K will reopen after a gap of 5 months on Monday, with vaccination preconditions of students and staff.

Government has ordered reopening of colleges subject to 100 percent vaccination of students and staff.

“Vide government Order No: 66-JK(DMRRR) of 2021 Dated: 05-09-2021 Higher Education institutions have been permitted to commence with limited in-person teaching subject to 100% vaccination of staff and students,” reads an order by Sushma Chauhan (IAS), Secretary to the Government Higher Education Department.

“Almost all colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will resume the physical academic activities in a weeks’ time and the gradual process of its reopening will start from Monday” Chauhan said.

“Further, Head of concerned Institution must ensure that the guidelines related to social distancing and Covid-19 Protocol are adhered to in letter and spirit.”

A day after J&K’s latest sero-prevalence study results were released, the UT Government allowed Government Degree Colleges to reopen for in-person teaching. The sero-study showed nearly 85 percent of people in Kashmir had COVID19 antibodies.

However, the Government has made it mandatory that the students and staff attending the college are fully vaccinated.
