Soon after completing graduation, Ishrat went to work as a teacher at a local private school to aid her family come out of a financial crisis. She still harboured dreams of further education and wanted to become a lawyer.

However, after meeting a teacher in that very school she was convinced to go for the LLB Entrance examination at University of Kashmir. In 2019, she would be selected for the LLB program after qualifying the entrance.

During her early days at the University she also got an offer from media fraternity in online news portal Voice of Kashmir, where she worked as a content writer and News anchor for a year and a half.

The turning point for Ishrat came during the 2020 Covid pandemic, she observed that people in her area were not taking the disease seriously and it was spreading at an alarming rate in her village. She tried to talk to people about the issue but received little support.

This law student then took to social media and began sharing information about the pandemic, she advised people on guidelines, SOP and other relevant information.

Her efforts were recognized as she was the recipient of award of appreciation From Lehar foundation as  best Female “Covid warrior”.

In 2021, Ishrat became the only girl in her hometown to join local municipal Committee Aishmuqam as a Volunteer of the Covid Team to fight against the pandemic and start helping people on ground while also making them aware of the virus.

In March of 2021, she received Powerful Emerging Women (award) at Women’s degree college Anantnag as Best Female social worker in the district

Later in the same year, she got a massive opportunity when she was selected in a UNICEF project “SAFE SCHOOLS” as community mobilizer as part of ELFA INTERNATIONAL.

Ishrat gave information on (CAB) Covid appropriate behavior, Mental health, Cyber Crime and Knowledge to girls about Mensurational Hygiene, thus playing a key part in the awareness programs in her area.

Besides this, Ishrat has also made efforts to educate women and children about law and their rights. She usually travels to far flung areas and aims to make people aware about various issues such as domestic violence, rights of women, bullying etc.

Currently, she is pursuing her LLB degree from University of Kashmir, where she has once again shone after being selected the legal coordinator for “Law Society KU”.

Ishrat hopes start an NGO of her own in future and help curb social evils in the society, she also plans to offer free legal services to people who are in need but cannot afford it.

While the achievements and accolades that Mir Ishrat Nabi was already received are remarkable, it is the work that she has done on ground and helped a large section of society that truly stands out.

People like her are much needed in our society and those who have the courage to stand up and be counted and try their best to make a difference in the society are always remembered.
