On Friday, global streaming giant Netflix announced a film set in the Kashmir valley. The series is titled Baramulla, named after the Kashmir district and will stream on November 7.
Unlike other Kashmir related film projects, this will be a supernatural drama-mystery taking place in Baramulla and will star Manav Kaul.
Set against the hauntingly beautiful yet turbulent backdrop of Kashmir, this film weaves together mystery, emotion, and the supernatural in a chilling tale that marks the second collaboration between Netflix and B62 Studios, following their 2024 romantic comedy Dhoom Dhaam.
At the heart of the story is Kaul, portraying DSP Ridwaan Sayyed, who a determined police officer drawn into a web of secrets as he investigates a string of child disappearances in the snow-covered town of Baramulla. As the cold deepens, so do the shadows, blurring the line between reality and the otherworldly.
As Sayyed and his family take shelter in a crumbling, long-forgotten house, his investigation into the vanished children spirals into something far more intimate. He has a haunting confrontation with the ghosts of his past and a descent into mysteries that defy reason and reality.
Directed and written by Aditya Suhas Jambhale of Article 370 fame, the film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios in collaboration with Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar of B62 Studios.
“With a genre bending film like Baramulla, we wanted to tell a story rooted in emotion but elevated by tension and the supernatural. Kashmir is not just the setting; it’s a living, breathing character that shapes every moment and every mystery. We hope the audience across the world feels the pulse of the valley and the humanity at the heart of this journey,” Jambhale said in a statement.
