Property Worth Rs.70 Crores Lost In Fires In Kashmir Last Year.

Property worth over 70 crore rupees was lost in over 2000 incidents of fire in Kashmir last year, with almost nearly two thousand houses and commercial buildings to ashes.

According to the data, the department of Fire and Emergency received over 448 calls from January 2021 till December 2021 in Srinagar city.

The data suggested that over 354 structures including 60 shops and 20 shopping complexes were damaged during different fire incidents in the city, which is highest from any district of Kashmir.

It further reveals that over 43 electric transformers and 19 vehicles were damaged in fire incidents and the property worth 2631.62 lakh got damaged in the city because of the fire.

North Kashmir’s Baramulla District is on the second number of the list compiled by the department. It suggests that over 324 fire incidents were reported in the district.

It further reveals that over 263 structures including 160 shops, eight vehicles and 11 electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents, while property worth 686.74 lakh got damaged in fire.

After Baramulla, the frontier district Kupwara reported the third highest number of fire incidents in Kashmir.

The data says that over 313 fire incidents were reported in the district in the year 2021.

It further reveals that over 265 structures including 74 shops, four vehicles and 20 electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents, while property worth 654.31 lakhs got damaged in fire.

South Kashmir’s Anantnag district also reported over 253 fire incidents.

Over 177 structures including 30 shops, 13 shopping complexes, four vehicles and seven electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents, while property worth 505.29 lakhs got damaged in fire.

In Pulwama district of southern Kashmir over 215 fire incidents were reported. while 164 structures including 19 shops, 06 shopping complexes, 10 vehicles and 10 electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents.
The property worth 813.72 lakhs got damaged in the fire.

In central Kashmir Budgam district over 179 fire incidents were reported. Over 101 structures including 07 shops, 14 shopping complexes and 11 electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents.

The property worth 450.85 lakhs got damaged in the fire.
The Ganderbal district witnessed over 124 fire incidents. In different fire incidents over 81 structures including 08 shops and 09 electric transformers and 07 vehicles got damaged during different fire incidents.

In south Kashmir’s Kulgam over 141 fire incidents were reported. Over 107 structures including 09 shops, one shopping complex, 02 vehicles and four electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents. The property worth 481.26 lakhs got damaged in the fire.

In north Kashmir’s Bandipora district over 141 fire incidents were reported.

Over 107 structures including 14 shops, two shopping complexes, three vehicles and four electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents. The property worth 238.27 lakhs got damaged in the fire.

At the last comes south Kashmir’s Shopian where 104 fire incidents occurred.

Over 92 structures including ten shops, one shopping complex and eight electric transformers got damaged during different fire incidents. The property worth 392.05 lakhs got damaged in the fire.

The Kashmir valley has reported over 2274 fire incidents in 2021 and 2336 incidents reported in 2020. Over 1812 fire incidents in 2019, and 2741 fire incidents in 2018, while 2914 fire incidents were reported in the year 2017 and 3548 fire incidents in the year 2016.

The officials said that many structures got damaged due to fire during different encounters between militants and government forces.
